A chance to visit Europe is always a welcome retreat.  Capturing memories from a European excursion can be challenging for an artist.  Depending on weather, and companionship, the experience can be filled with field work “en plein air”, or quick reference photography.  Many of these paintings were begun on location.  Several were inspired by photographs.  My favorite experience is mingling with the locals, sitting on the sideway and beginning a study of the culture on location.  But the camera comes in handy when time is limited.  Back in my studio, I can use photo references to bring me back into the moment.
